Animal Rescue Vehicles
When natural disaster strikes, we can count on first responders to help. Fire Departments, Police Departments, the National Guard, and the Coast Guard are all equipped with specialized vehicles and tools to quickly and safely remove people from harm's way. Recent disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and major midwest floods have exposed a vital flaw: rescue units are not properly equipped to deal with the animals and livestock that the victims leave behind.
See Noahs Ark is developing three specialized vehicles capable of entering a disaster area and rescuing both large and small animals at a moment's notice. Combined with available tracking and web technology to communicate the whereabouts of recovered pets to displaced citizens, the goal of this project is to ensure that survivors of major disasters don't have to also endure the loss of a pet.
